Description

Description

Description: This AD2.38 monoclonal antibody reacts with human, mouse, and rat Pax6. This 47-kDa transcription factor is expressed during embryonic neurogenesis in the brain and central nervous system, as well as in neuroepithelial cells of the retina. Pax6 is involved in development of the eyes, nose, central nervous system, pancreas, and pituitary gland. Studies also demonstrate that Pax6 is crucial for alpha-cell differentiation and glucagon biosynthesis in the pancreas. Mutation of Pax6 results in eye disorders such as aniridia in humans and Small eye in mice. Applications Reported: This AD2.38 antibody has been reported for use in immunoblotting (WB) and immunocytochemistry. Applications Tested: This AD2.38 antibody has been tested by immunocytochemistry of fixed and permeabilized MV+ cells. This antibody can be used at less than or equal to 5 μg/mL. It is recommended that this antibody be carefully titrated for optimal performance in the assay of interest. Purity: Greater than 90%, as determined by SDS-PAGE. Aggregation: Less than 10%, as determined by HPLC. Filtration: 0.2 μm post-manufacturing filtered.

This gene encodes paired box gene 6, one of many human homologs of the Drosophila melanogaster gene prd. In addition to the hallmark feature of this gene family, a conserved paired box domain, the encoded protein also contains a homeo box domain. Both domains are known to bind DNA, and function as regulators of gene transcription. This gene is expressed in the developing nervous system, and in developing eyes. Mutations in this gene are known to cause ocular disorders such as aniridia and Peter's anomaly. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding either the same or different isoform have been found for this gene.
