It is widely involved in chemical industry for the synthesis of ethoxylates, alkyl sulfates and ether sulfates. It is used as a solvent in paints, varnishes, waxes, and surface coatings and mainly involved in agricultural chemistry to inhibit excessive growth of tobacco plants.
