1,10-Diiododecane is used as an alkylating agent in the synthesis of symmetrical and unsymmetrical bis-cryptophanes and as a crosslinking reagent for tetrabutylammonium polygalacturonic acid. it is also used to produce decane at temperature of 20°C.
