Hazardous and Biohazardous Waste Disposal Bags and Containers
Durable containers and holders designed specifically to collect hazardous and biohazardous waste. Available in plastic, metal, and incinerable cardboard. All styles (except wire-frame holders) are clearly marked with the universal biohazard symbol, hazardous waste labeling, or are bright red in color for easy identification.
Hazardous and Biohazardous Waste Overview
Any waste that may contain contaminated, infectious, or chemically dangerous substances is considered hazardous or biohazardous. This includes:
- Biohazardous waste: materials that may spread disease in humans, animals, or the environment. Examples include:
- Sharps (needles, blades, glass)
- Certain body fluids
- Human and animal blood or tissue
- Recombinant DNA
- Animal or plant pathogens
These wastes must be separated from general waste and disposed of using approved biohazard containers or bags.
- Hazardous waste: substances that pose chemical or physical risks. Categories include:
- Corrosive – strong acids, bases, cleaning agents
- Reactive – unstable or explosive chemicals, oxidizers
- Toxic – heavy metals, pesticides, poisonous compounds
Improper disposal may cause harm to people, animals, and the environment, making proper containment and disposal essential.
Both categories of waste should always be identified, segregated, and disposed of using appropriate, clearly labeled containers in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
